Sequoyah staff seething after toilet tank assault

The Express-Star

CHICKASHA — A staff member at the Sequoyah House is pressing charges against one of its residents after she allegedly smashed him over the head with a toilet tank lid.

The 15-year-old girl reportedly struck staff member Chris Wilson while he was trying to restrain a resident during an incident at Sequoyah House, a privately-operated juvenile detention center, according to a Chickasha Police Department incident report. An officer was called to the at-risk-youth home just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday night about a fight in progress, and when he arrived he observed swelling and lacerations to the side of Wilson’s head.

The impact of the lid was so strong, the report says it was smashed into “numerous pieces.” It had been cleaned up by the time the officer arrived. The juvenile was transported to Comanche County Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Lawton.

Details of the case from Chickasha Police are limited since it involves a minor. Sequoyah House officials said they could not make any comment on the situation, since residents are considered to be in custody and protection of the state.

Sequoyah House is part of Sequoyah Enterprises, Inc., which has facilities across the state and one in Dallas. It began in 1995 in Le Flore County, which borders Arkansas.
