Chickasha man to star in city play

CHICKASHA — Chickasha resident C.W. Bardsher is one of four actors starring in the Carpenter Square Theatre's production of "Out of Sterno."

"I hadn't worked with C.W. before Out of Sterno, but as soon as I saw him audition, I knew that he would be awesome to work with," play lead A'Mari Jo Rocheleau.

"Out of Sterno" is Deborah Zoe Laufer’s coming-of-age story with an “Alice in Wonderland” twist, and will play June 28-July 20 at 800 W. Main in Oklahoma City.

Bardsher will play Dan, a character that requires a good deal of talent, said Rocheleau.

"Dan actually has to play multiple characters, both male and female, and at auditions C.W. was able to so effortlessly create these over-the-top characters on the spur of the moment," Rocheleau said. "It takes a lot of talent as an actor to do that type of work & everyone was really impressed."

Bardsher plays eight different male and female characters that Dotty - Rocheleau's character - meets on her adventure.

Although this is the first time they will work together,  Rocheleau said she has total confidence in Bardsher.

"When we found out we were cast together, we almost instantly became great friends," said Rocheleau. "And as an actor, when you start to work with another actor, you can usually quickly tell if you're going to be able to really trust them onstage to keep up and push you to give your best performance and C.W. does that without a doubt. He has such a great presence onstage and it's nice to work with actors like that. I also saw him recently in Something Intangible and was thoroughly impressed with his performance, so I knew he would be great in Sterno as well."

Sunny Marler serves as stage manager, assisted by Rodonna Carter and William Garret.  James Polk Wilson is the production’s set and lighting designer, with Rhonda Clark as the costume designer.

Specific show times spanning four weekends are:  8 p.m. June 28-29 and July 5-6; 7:30 p.m. July 11, 8 p.m. July 12-13, and 2 p.m. July 14; 7:30 p.m. July 18 and 8 p.m. July 19-20.

Regular adult tickets are $20 with $15 tickets offered for seniors, military, and groups of 10 or more.

Student rush tickets are $5. “Out of Sterno” is rated PG-13. For more information and reservations, call the Carpenter Square Theatre box office at 405-232-6500 or visit online at www.carpentersquare.com.
