Chickasha Police Officer Scott Weaver arrested resident Jorge Smith for assault with a dangerous weapon on June 17.
Weaver made contact with Ronnie Yates, the alleged victim, who said he had been walking down an alley near the 600 block of west Pennsylvania Avenue when he was startled by an engine revving. Yates turned around and saw a tan truck being driven by Smith. He told Weaver that Smith yelled, “I’m going to kill you” and then attempted to run him over. Yates jumped out of the way to avoid being hit. Yates told Weaver that Smith then lost control of the vehicle and struck a pole with the passenger side rearview mirror.
Weaver observed acceleration marks around the alley. He also observed fresh flowers that were knocked off of the bush that Yates indicated he dove into to avoid being hit.
Weaver received a tip that Smith and his truck were located at Dunn’s Food Center and traveled to the area to make contact with him. Weaver observed an empty, damaged truck upon arrival and took pictures of it.
Then, according to the report, Weaver saw Smith walking nearby and yelled for Smith to come to him. Smith complied and was placed under arrest by Weaver.
