In recognition of America Saves Week, the American Bankers Association announced Thursday, February 28th, the top three winners in its national “Lights, Camera, Save!” video contest. The winning videos were revealed through the association’s financial literacy http://www.youtube.com/TeachChildrentosave YouTube channel. The First National Bank & Trust Company, Chickasha, hosted an Announcement Reception in the Bank’s community room to view the ABA video winners.
The judging panel, which consisted of personal finance and marketing experts, awarded Reagan Elkin the grand prize for his video entitled “Saving My Clams.” Elkins, from Chickasha, Okla., was a finalist through First National Bank & Trust Co.
“ABA congratulates Reagan for creating a fun and entertaining music video that demonstrates the benefits of saving,” said Frank Keating, ABA president and CEO. “Reagan’s music video will help inspire other kids to become lifelong savers.”
The “Lights, Camera, Save!” judging panel awarded the national grand prizes as listed below:
First Place Winner—$3,000 savings fund
Reagan Elkins, “Saving My Clams”
The First National Bank & Trust Co. (Chickasha, Okla.)
Second Place Winner—$1,500 savings fund
Matt Xi, “Saving for the Future”
Brainerd Savings and Loan Association (Brainerd, Minn.)
Third Place Winner—$500 savings fund
Lewis Kloster, “One Ice Cream Cone, Please”
U.S. Bank, NA
In addition to the national grand prizes, the contest also included the Bankers’ Choice award. The videos were screened at the association’s National Conference for Community Bankers in early February and the bankers in attendance selected Elkin’s video as the winner.
Keating attributes the LCS’s success to the bankers’ efforts to promote the contest locally. The campaign, which launched in 2010 as an offshoot of the ABA’s Teach Children to Save program, is a unique competition that encourages kids to use video to communicate the value of saving and motivate others. More than 120 banks and branches from 41 states hosted local levels of the competition and selected a winner to represent their bank to compete on the national level.
The parent program, Teach Children to Save, is a national campaign to organize banker volunteers in efforts to educate young people about the importance of developing a lifelong savings habit. This year the program will celebrate its 17th anniversary on April 24. Since 1997, it has reach more than 5.6 million young people with the help of nearly 121,000 banker volunteers.
