Sheriffs nab cigarette burglary suspects

GRADY COUNTY — Two out-of-state men were arrested in Chickasha Sunday night in connection with a smash-and-grab burglary in Amber over the weekend.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a black dark colored Ford F-150 truck was backed into the front door of the Williams Express Convenience Store in Amber. Two male subjects ran out with three boxes containing a combined 90 cartons of cigarettes. After a call from a concerned citizen, 24-year-old Albino Abel Nunez, from Amarillo, Texas, and 29-year-old James Howard Day from Rochelle, Ga., were arrested by Grady County Sheriffs and charged with second degree burglary and receiving/possessing/concealing stolen property.

Nunez and Day were arrested after law enforcement officials were informed about a man selling cigarettes from the back of a vehicle in the local Walmart parking lot. One of the subjects, found with a large amount of cigarettes in his car, was arrested in a traffic stop, and the other was taken into custody at the All American Inn in Chickasha where another stash of cigarettes and the truck suspected of being used in the burglary were found. Amber Police Department and Chickasha Police Department were also involved in the arrests.

The heist comes with cigarettes a hot topic in Oklahoma after a proposed tax increase by 94 cents to $1.13 a pack was introduced in a state house bill.
