Man arrested admits to smoking pot with minor

A man was arrested and taken into custody for possession of marijuana during the early hours of Jan. 30 after he admitted smoking marijuana with a minor, according to an affidavit from the Chickasha Police Department.

A Chickasha Police Officer pulled over a vehicle he had observed speeding.

After catching up with the vehicle, the officer saw the vehicle veer left of center and then pull in front of a residence and then illegally park with the driver's side wheels on the left side of the road.

The officer saw a male subject walking away from the truck toward a residence. Five other people exited the truck.

The officer initially made contact with a juvenile who said he was the driver of the vehicle. The officer reported that as he explained the reason for the stop to the driver, he could smell an odor of alcohol on his person. The officer said that he also smelled an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Of the five passengers in the vehicle, the officer said there were three minors and two adults.

The adult passengers identified themselves as Leobardo Maldonado and Cory Robertson.

When the officer searched the vehicle, he found a metal tin within the pocket attached to the back passenger seat. Inside the tin, the officer found a botanical substance that he recognized as marijuana. It later field tested positive as marijuana.

When the officer asked the passengers who was in the right rear seat, Maldonado said that he was. When the officer asked Maldonado if the marijuana was his, he said it was. Maldonado said that he, Robertson and one of the minors had been smoking marijuana.

Maldonado was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana. Prior to his transport to the Grady County Jail, the officer asked Maldonado if he had anything else on him. Maldonado said there was not.
