CHICKASHA —

Disposing of the fallen limbs from the recent ice storm has been a big task for Grady County, one that comes with hazards.

Several controlled burns have gotten out of control, Grady County Emergency Management Deputy, Paulette Nicholas, said at the Grady County Commissioners Meeting yesterday.

No structures have been lost due to these fires, but Nicholas said that the fires demonstrate how easy it is for these controlled burns to get out of hand.

Nicholas said that residents should use extra caution and pay attention to weather conditions when burning limbs, especially when the weather is extra dry.

Cold fronts could be moving in starting Wednesday and over the weekend, Nicholas said. Snow is possible but it is too early to say if there will be precipitation. However, those with travel plans should stay aware, she said.

The filing and election date for the Grady County Fair Board members was set. The filing period will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 13 through Jan. 17 at the Grady County Clerk's Office. The election date is set for Tuesday, Jan. 28 beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m. for Districts 1, 2 and 3. Each election will be held in the county barn.

A motion was passed that Windle Hardy will serve as Chairman and Mike Lennier will serve as Vice Chairman for the Grady County Commissioners for the year 2014.
