TUTTLE —

The naked body of a man was located in Tuttle on Sunday afternoon.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, but intoxication or suicide are suspected, Grady County Sheriff, Jim Weir, said at a press conference on Monday.

The man may have removed his clothing due to hypothermia setting in, which often makes its victims feel very warm near the end, Weir said. Hypothermia and/or possible drug use also could have made the man feel delirious, Weir said.

It has not been confirmed that the body was missing person, Christopher Odell Lane, but Lane's father did identify the body and an ID was located nearby, Weir said.

According to a report from the Grady County Sheriff's Office, Lane had left his mother's house at around 3 a.m. on Dec. 7. Lane had left text messages and voicemails to family members saying that he was going to end his life.

Temperatures were in the teens on the night that Lane disappeared. The body that was found still had snow surrounding it.

The body had minor scrapes and scratches, likely from branches and fences, Weir said.

Phone pings had led a search team in another area, south of where the body was found. Lane's cell phone has still not been located.

Weir said he believes the man died the same night he went out into the cold, and that there is little that could have been done on the part of authorities or the search party to locate the man in time.

At this time Weir said the death would likely be ruled as accidental.
