Convicted jail murderer pleads guilty, receives sentence of 35 years

Grant Curry, who was supposed to stand trial for the jailhouse murder of Anthony Mollman, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder and guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance.

In lieu of standing trial for the murder of Mollman, Curry took a plea agreement of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 32 years in state prison.

Curry also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and got 32 years for that charge. The second-degree murder plea and the conspiracy plea are to be served concurrently, said Grady County Assistant District Attorney Leah Edwards.

Edwards said Curry will serve at least 85 percent of the 32-year sentence for second-degree murder before he can become eligible for parole.

Curry is one of seven suspects accused of participating in the murder of Mollman.

The Grady County Jail surveillance video showed the attack of Mollman where seven inmates were identified as Curry, Cody Sitlington, Matthew Jackson, Steven Nidey, Michael Herron, Joseph Hill and Jerry Gonzales.

An affidavit released by Grady County gives details of the 14-minute attack and of the six other individuals involved; three were the primary attackers of Mollman.

The video also shows Sitlington dragging Mollman's unconscious body into Hill's cell, and one of the inmates using a towel to wipe down the area where Mollman collapsed.
