Man arrested for assaulting officer

The Express-Star

CHICKASHA — A physical altercation occurred in the area of Highway 81 between Chickasha Police Officer Chad King and perpetrator Billy Wallace on June 19.

King realized Wallace, walking on the side of the highway, matched the description of a man who had attempted to fraudulently obtain money at the First National Bank and Trust of Chickasha. King made contact with Wallace, asking the man to take a seat in his patrol car. Wallace complied.

After King confirmed Wallace’s identification and radioed for additional units to assist at the scene, he asked Wallace to exit the vehicle. Wallace exited and was asked to put his hands behind his back because he was being placed under arrest. Wallace then tensed up and attempted to hit King in the head. King dodged the punch and struck Wallace in the face.

The two men wrestled on the side of the highway until Reserve Officer Bradlee Phelps of Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office arrived and helped to place Wallace under arrest.

The report notes Wallace attempted to choke King during the altercation. It also notes Wallace continued trying to fight King while being placed into handcuffs.

Wallace was transported to Grady County Jail and booked for assault and battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest and uttering a forged instrument.
