La Fiesta closes to eradicate roaches

CHICKASHA — La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant, located at 220 East Almar Dr., was shut down by request from the Grady County Health Department inspector on June 28.

The report states the restaurant was not in compliance with the following: Food separation/protection, proper tasting procedures’ self-serve operations, single service use when required; insects, rodents or other pests controlled; approved thaw methods, active cool containers stored properly.

Notes on the report advise cockroaches were on walls and a table near the preparation area. It also advised a piece of meat was left to thaw overnight on a countertop.

La Fiesta Manager Johnny Torres said the decision to temporarily close the restaurant came about after guests dining in the facility found cockroaches in their chips. His staff is working diligently to resolve the situation.

“We are working together with the health department,” he said. “Our exterminator has laid down heavy treatments and there is still a strong smell lingering so we will remain closed for a while. During this time we are also working on other maintenance in the store, such as patching up holes in the walls. We won’t operate in conditions such as this — we want to take care of this to make sure a bigger outbreak doesn’t occur.”

La Fiesta is expected to reopen on Wednesday.
