CHICKASHA — Chickasha Police arrested two store clerks for selling alcohol to a minor during a sting operation Friday.

CPD sent an anonymous underaged person to attempt to buy beer from 18 local businesses and arrested two store clerks, Tonya Lemon from Cave Mart and Mavis Bryan from CVS Pharmacy, for selling the beer.

"We conducted these compliance checks to coincide with the week of high school graduation here in Chickasha to hopefully serve as a reminder to those selling alcohol that they have a responsibility to check IDs and make sure they are not selling to underage minors," Police Chief Eddie Adamson said. "Although we wish we had 100 percent compliance like the last time we conducted compliance checks, we are still really happy that 16 of the 18 places checked did exactly as they were supposed to do and did not sell to the minor."

Adamson said CPD will continue to perform regular compliance checks to ensure alcohol and tobacco isn't sold to underage buyers.

The store clerks who made the illegal transactions were given a $538 municipal citation and a court date.

CPD encourages people to report illegal alcohol or tobacco sales to them at 405-222-6050 or the Grady County Crimestoppers at 405-224-8477.
