Possible theft of cell phones thwarted

CHICKASHA —

A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he allegedly broke into a car and stole a bag with more than 25 cell phones in it.

Chickasha Police Officer Reid Kerr said Stacie Bashaw told him she saw a male in a white hoodie break into her car.

Kerr was notified by dispatch that the suspect was found at Centennial Park. The man, identified as Anthony Gardi, was extremely out of breath, according to Kerr.

During a search of Gardi's person, Kerr said he found a clear plastic baggy with two pills and a green leafy substance. Gardi said he had Xanax bars in his pocket.

Gardi said he found a bag containing 28 cell phones on the sidewalk and "some crazy guy with a gun was chasing him."

Bashaw identified the phones as her property.

Gardi was arrested and booked into the Grady County Jail for burglary in the second degree, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a public park.
