Disaster avoided after bus driver passes out

NORMAN —

Pioneer School teachers were quick to act on a field trip today, intervening when the bus driver passed out.

The school's computer teacher, Rick Webb, has been admitted to the hospital after he suddenly fell ill while taking a bus load of kids to HeyDay Entertainment Center in Norman. No one suffered injury as a result, although Webb received medical attention.

Teachers and chaperones on one of two buses transporting the 90 or so school children noticed Webb was struggling and stepped in before things got dangerous, said Pioneer School secretary Brenda Davidson.

After Webb received the attention he needed, another certified bus driver was able to fill in so the field trip could continue.
