Furry friends relax on dog day afternoon

Chickasha Relay for Life will be celebrating four-legged friends of cancer survivors, supporters and caregivers next Saturday.

Chickasha Bark for Life is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the USAO Oval. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

Because Bark for Life will take place the weekend after the Montmartre Chalk Art Festival, canine and human participants alike will be able to enjoy the artistic renderings bringing the Oval to life with color.

"That's kind of why we picked this weekend," Jeannette Loutsch, Chickasha Relay for Life, said.

The fundraiser has grown over the years, from nine dogs in 2012 to 31 dogs in 2013, Loutsch said. This year, Loutsch said she would like to see 50 dogs at the event.

The dogs must be current on all shots and vaccinations.

Registration is $10 online and $15 at the event. Register online at
