Local food pantry open Thursday nights

— The food pantry is extending its hours on Thursdays to accommodate those who work but still need a little help.

"The Department of Human Services and the Regional Food Bank are finding that there are many people who work but still struggle to provide food for themselves or their families," Conrad Duprez of the Emergency Food Pantry, said.

He added that most food pantries are not open after 5 o'clock, which is problematic for those who work during the daytime hours.

The Pastor's Class at Epworth United Methodist Church is doing something about this problem. The class members have volunteered to keep the food pantry open on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m.

The new hours for the food pantry are Monday through Thursday, 1-4 p.m. and Thursday evenings 6-8 p.m.

The food pantry is located on the North side of the First Presbyterian Church at 6th and Minnesota.

Since 1985, the Emergency Food Pantry has been providing food to qualified individuals and families in the Chickasha area, serving 600 people during their first year. Last year, the Emergency Food Pantry served over 2,500 people.
