TUTTLE -- Tuttle Fire Station Number One got a post-Christmas surprise they could have done without when a white Chevrolet Avalanche struck another vehicle and then plowed into the fire station the day after Christmas.

According to Tuttle Assistant Police Chief Captain Billy Boyd, Wesley Bain, the driver of the Avalanche, “crossed the lane and hit a truck and then slammed into the fire station.”

It was first believed that Bain may have suffered a seizure or heart attack as there were no skid marks anywhere, according to Tuttle Police Officer Andrew Graham who was on the scene of the accident. Bain was transported to Southwest Medical Center in south Oklahoma City. It was later reported that he had suffered a stroke.

“We don’t have a cost estimate yet, we’re still working on it,” said Tuttle City Manager Tim Young of the damage to the station. “We had a structural engineer out yesterday to see if the building is still sound, and it is. But it knocked out one support column and we will have to replace the sheathing on the north side of the building.”

Young said two of the station’s fire trucks were slightly damaged in the accident, including squad vehicle No. 1 and engine No. 2, one of the station’s newest trucks.

“The damage is primarily cosmetic in nature, the equipment still works, but there is damage to the grill and bumper and the windshield must be replaced,” said Young.

The second vehicle, a black Ford Adrenaline driven by Tonya Morris, was also damaged in the collision.
