Grady County volunteer fire departments fought a series of fires set along the H.E. Bailey Turnpike Thursday night east of Amber.
Amber Fire Chief Mike Norman said it appears four fires had been intentionally set along I-44.
Three stations responded to the scene including Amber, Friend and Bridge Creek. Norman said Bridge Creek was released early to respond to a structure fire in their area.
Firefighters first protected a home and a barn that had been threatened by the fire. Once the danger cleared, the firefighters worked to suppress other areas.
Norman said the fire’s path stretched a mile along I-44 and at its widest was approximately a quarter mile across.
Having been called out at approximately 4:30 p.m., the firefighters were able to call it a night between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. No injuries were reported.
