Food Drive

Grace Living Center Employees are collecting non-perishable food items and would like to extend an invitation to the community to be a part of giving.

The donated items will be given to Cornerstone Church, which provides noon meals to the public each day through the week. The church also prepare boxes of food for distribution to families that have requested assistance.

If you want to be a part of giving, bring items to 2300 W. Iowa by Nov. 19.

Mission: Compassion

This Christmas holiday season, Mission: Compassion has adopted a unit of over 200 members of military personnel and MC will be stuffing stockings with personal travel size toiletries including shampoo, non-aerosol deodorant, soaps, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors -- anything that can fit into a stocking. The stockings will be stuffed locally and will also include letters and cards to our military member with each one.

The stockings will be shipped the week after Thanksgiving so that they can get to the troops in time for Christmas. Any and all help would be appreciated!

This is a great project for civic and community groups, volunteer organizations, schools and churches. Donations of items, and money to offset shipping costs, will be accepted. Donations of toiletries, Christmas candy and monies to offset shipping can be sent to Mission Compassion, P. O. Box 451, Chickasha, OK 73023-0451.

Ninnekah's Thanksgiving

The Ninnekah Community Center would like to extend an invitation to their annual Thanksgiving feast on Nov. 16, 2009 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m..

Turkey, dressing, ham and all the trimmings will be served, along with desserts made by some of the finest cooks in the county.

The dinner will be by donation only. Take out orders may be placed by calling 224-7434 from 9-11 a.m. on Nov. 16th.

The Community Center is located on the SW corner of Dell & Elm in downtown Ninnekah. For more information, contact Margie from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday- Thursday at 224-7434.

All proceeds benefit the Ninnekah Senior Nutrition Program.





Operation Christmas Child

First Christian Church, located at 6th and Kansas Ave., will be the drop-off point for Christmas shoebox gifts going to Operation Christmas Child, a division of Samaritan's Purse.

Gifts will be packed in cartons for delivery to Oklahoma City and on to international destinations.

Volunteers need help receive donated goods and pack them in cartons are needed during the morning hours of Nov. 16 - 22. Anyone wanting to help in this project may contact the church at 224-6372 or Luellen Wittenbach at 224-6088. An hour or two or more to aid in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated.

The hours at 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22.



Angel Project

Seventeen years ago, a Southwest Youth and Family Services staff member had a dream to provide Christmas gifts for the children and youth who would be in the shelter for Christmas.

The Angel Project was established and has more than fulfilled this dream. Since it's inception, the Angel Project has provided Christmas gifts to more than 3,500 needy children across Grady & Caddo counties.

This has been possible only through the generous support of donors.

SWYFS is looking for individuals or groups to partner with them this holiday season so the children of are community are not forgotten but reminded how special they are.

To adopt an "Angel," call 405-222-5437 or send your contribution to us and a committed staff member will shop for you. Mail your contribution your contribution to Angel Project, Southwest Youth and Family Services, P.O. Box 829, Chickasha, OK 73023.

The Angel Project works in conjunction with the Department of Human Services, Salvation Army, and Santa's Workshop to ensure that all needs are met and no duplications are made.

Gifts for Yanks

The American Legion Auxilliary is conducting their annual donation drive, Gifts for Yanks, to support Oklahoma veterans in seven retirement homes in Oklahoma, Monies are raised and given to the homes for veterans needs from money to call loved ones to holiday parties. Donations may be mailed to Gifts for Yanks, c/o Sally Curry, P.O. Box 225, Chickasha, Ok 73023.

This drive is dedicated to Virginia Little who ran this program for the American Legion Auxilliary for the past 45 years.



Something Worthwhile set for Dec.1

Something Worthwhile, an entertaining evening event for all ladies in the area, will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Life Center of Epworth United Methodist Church, Chickasha.

Following a home-cooked meal, Aiya Attaway, director of music ministries at Epworth UM Church, Chickasha, will present a beautiful musical program.

Guests are asked to bring a wrapped Christmas ornament to exchange.

Reservations are required and seating is limited. All reservations are made with Bobi at 320-0240. Reservations will be accepted until all tickets are sold or until the deadline of 3 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 27. The meal cost is $4, which can be paid at the door.

Childcare is available when requested with one’s reservation. Each guest is asked to please honor her reservation, or if unable to attend, share it with a friend.

Copies of the ‘Let’s Make Something Worthwhile’ cookbook, featuring recipes from the 2008-09 Something Worthwhile women’s events, will be available for purchase at $5. Proceeds from the cookbook will benefit the Resurrection House and Cornerstone Church.
