County moves closer to starting projects

By KAREN BRADY

Staff Writer

The Grady County Commissioners opened bids for two stimulus projects on Monday.

The first bids, for the City of Chickasha's traffic signal replacement project, which includes traffic signal retrofitting with LED lighting, loop repair and the replacement of a controller cabinet, were tabled until next week's meeting so that city officials may look them over before making a decision.

There was only a single bid from Johnson Controls, Inc. of Oklahoma City for the Grady County Courthouse chilled water plumbing project. The board accepted the the $80,627 bid, with work expected to begin around Dec. 1.

Commissioners also requested bids for one or more belly-dump rock trailers for District 3 and for six-month bids on commonly-used items for all districts.

The board then approved a proclamation naming Nov. 10, 2009 as Winter Weather Preparedness Day in Grady County, urging all community partners to inform citizens of the proper actions to take when winter weather conditions prevail.

"In recent years, Oklahoma has experienced the brunt of winter weather, including deadly ice storms in 2007 and 2008," District 3 Commissioner Jack Porter said. "We all need to be aware of these natural threats we face in our community and take responsibility to make sure we are properly prepared when disaster strikes."

The board voted to renew the leases for the Sooner Start Building and Health Department, pending DA approval, and to dispose of equipment in Districts 2 and 3.

No action was taken on two agenda items, including approval of plats for Winter Creek Golf and Country Club, which was taken off the agenda, and for a contract between Grady County and Commercial Roofing, which was placed on next week's agenda.
