The Chickasha Lions Club is proud to announce its 90th anniversary and 90 years of service to Chickasha and the surrounding area.
The club recently celebrated with a special awards banquet in the USAO ballroom which included most of the current 50 members, spouses, honored guests, several former District Governors in Lionism and two keynote speakers, including current District Governor Al Williams of Lawton and Past International Director Pat Shurley.
The first international Lions Club convention was held in Dallas, in October of 1917 hosted by creative businessman and founder Melvin Jones. Seventeen clubs were chartered at the historic convention in 1917. The Chickasha Lions Club is proud to be one of the original seventeen Lions Clubs chartered as a founding club.
The recent celebration in Chickasha included several awards and recognition of members for outstanding service to the goals of the club. Lions Club International's highest award, the Melvin Jones Fellowship, was awarded to Jack Hudson, Ealmer Klippel and 66 - year member Jodie Sevier. These three treasured members were honored for long-time continued and extraordinary service to the community through outstanding leadership and dedication to the many Lions Club projects which provide needed support to several organizations and individuals in our community.
The Lions Club welcomes membership from civic and community-minded men and women who enjoy fellowship and service to others. The Lions Club meets each Wednesday at noon in the banquet room of the Chickasha Best Western Hotel.
