Dorman to speak at Veterans service

The annual Veterans Day program will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Grady County Veterans Memorial on the west side of Shannon Springs Park. The Oklahoma Veterans Recognition Committee welcomes everyone to come and show your appreciation for all our veterans.

This year's guest speaker will be District 65 Representative Joe Dorman of Rush Springs. Dorman is currently serving his fourth term as representative. He serves on the appropriations & budget committee, the rules committee, the administrative rule review committee, and the common education committee along with holding the title of Speaker Pro Tempore designate for the House Democratic Caucus in the 2010 session.

Dorman, prior to serving in office, worked for the Oklahoma House of Representatives in various positions for seven years including special projects coordinator where he implemented a program for high school pages to learn the legislative process through a mock legislature and served as the instructor of this program for five sessions.

Joe Dorman has been active in many area organizations and has been supportive of his district and the many people that he represents. He is community minded and always makes himself available for his constituents. His dedication to veterans is evident by his support and concerns for the many issues that they have.

This year's program will have many volunteers will take time out of their schedules to make sure that our veterans are never forgotten. As a special tribute, the Ninnekah fourth grade class of Ms. Bridwell will be presenting a song in honor of our veterans. Bob Martin will present the story Francis Scott Key and what inspired him to compose our national anthem that we all feel so strongly about and that our veterans have fought to preserve.

The Chickasha Elks Lodge will serve dinner to area veterans at 1 p.m. at 1818 W. Country Club Rd. All veterans and their spouse will be free and non-veteran guests are also welcome for the luncheon for a small fee.

If you love your freedoms, thank a veteran.
