County accepts bid for new roof

The Grady County Commissioners have accepted a bid for a new roof for the courthouse.

The board accepted the $90,868 bid from Commercial Roof Solutions of Oklahoma City for the project, which will be paid for with stimulus funds up to $90,000.

Other bidders included Crawford Roofing, Inc. of Chickasha with a bid of $53,240 and Standard Roofing Co., Inc., also of Oklahoma City, with a bid of $99,685. Hatcher Construction of Tuttle turned in a late bid and was not considered.

Commissioner Windle Hardy said the bid from Crawford Roofing did not meet the specs of the bid because of the type of roofing offered in the bid and the proposed use of 45 mil membrane instead of the 60 mil membrane outlined in the bid specs.

Hardy said the roofing project will include clearing the existing roof of all gravel and tar, the application of a two-part epoxy glue, a layer of insulation, another layer of epoxy and a covering of 60 mil membrane.

“We asked for a 10-year warranty, but this type of roof should last 20 to 30 years,” Hardy said.
