County wreck claims man’s life

Authorities say alcohol caused a fatal one-car accident Tuesday in Grady County claiming the life of a Lindsay, Okla., man.

Ray Watkins, 26, was a passenger in a Jeep 4X4 at 11 p.m. Tuesday on Country Road 1290, north of Chickasha. He was ejected when the vehicle overturned and trapped him. He died of head injuries at the scene.



What Happened:

Chickasha resident Brandon Dunn, 34, was driving eastbound on County Road 1290, about five miles north of Chickasha, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Dunn had two passengers with him, Chickasha resident Rocky Hendon, 25, and Watkins.

Troopers determined that Dunn crossed the two-lane gravel roadway and caused the Jeep to turn onto its side.



Who was injured:

The Jeep was not equipped with airbags, and seat belts were not in use.

Watkins was ejected from the vehicle into its path, pinning him underneath the roof of the car for more than four hours.

Dunn and Hendon were not injured



What's next:

Watkins was transported to Eisenhower Funeral Home in Blanchard. Services have been arranged for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dibble multi-purpose center with a graveside memorial following at the Dibble Cemetery.

Dunn was not arrested for driving under the influence, but OHP is investigating the wreck.
