5 Things You Should Know About The Rock Island Arts Festival

1. 25 local, 1
feature Artists
• Mediums will include watercolor, acrylics, oil painting, sculpture, wood working, mixed media, and photography.
• Ron Adams Jr., a wood turner, will do lathe demonstrations in Booth 1. He is the festival’s featured artist.
• Women artists will get an opportunity to show their artwork. Many will be first-time art show participants.
2. Hear an earful of Music
• Ali Harter will be the featured musician. She plays Jazz roots and Indie rock. She’ll perform at 7 p.m. Saturday.
• JAHRUBA African drumming and story telling is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.
• Michael Bender, a former USAO student, and his band, Post Arcadia., will play acoustic, folk, and Indie at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
3. An Oklahoma
taste of Wine
• Four Oklahoma wineries will provide free samples. All four of the wineries grow their grapes in Oklahoma red dirt, which makes them taste more like French wines.
• Participating wineries will include: Woods & Waters Winery, Anadarko; Legends of Lindsay, Lindsay, Okla.; Deer Creek Winery, Edmond; and The Range Winery, Anadarko,
4. A full belly
of Food
• Five local vendors will sell food to starving artists and their on-lookers.Vendors will include KC’s Barbecue, OHCE groups, Java Dave’s (coffee), Fried Pie Shop (desserts), BJ’s Pizza (gourmet pizza made specially for the festival).
• OHCE groups will serve Indian tacos, which are made with a secret recipe that is kept in a vault.
5. Something too
for the Kids
• The ‘Kiddo Area’ will be the site of pet rock painting, origami, mini-Zen gardens.
• Children 6 and younger can hunt for treasures, including Indian arrowheads, fools gold, coins, and gemstones. Each child may dig for five minutes or until they find three items.
• Children 8 and older can participate in the Keechi Treasure Trove Scavenger Hunt.
