Country great Watson performs in Chickasha

Sherrie Lambert
The Express-Star

Gene Watson says, “we’re still here,” referring to traditional country music artists and he proved it true Saturday night when he and his band, “Farewell Party” performed before a packed house at the Chickasha High School Auditorium.

Watson captivated his audience for almost two hours with a mixture of his top 10 and number one songs from a career that spans more than 35 years.

He told humorous stories of his early years as the opening act for such greats as Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn and also included information about what he is currently doing.

Along with the release of two new CDs, “Taste of the Truth” and “In a Perfect World,” Watson also has a soon-to-be-released video featuring a duet with award-winning Bluegrass artist, Rhonda Vincent.

The years have been good to this country legend. Watson is an artist who can still stand and deliver what the audience paid for. His smooth “southern comfort” voice has always been a crowd pleaser, that has not only earned him numerous awards and a die-hard fan base, but the well-deserved title of one of country music’s greatest.

Thanks Gene for a wonderful evening of entertainment. We’re already looking forward to next year.
