Commissioners approve stray animal account

The Grady County Commissioners held a short meeting on Monday, with only a handful of agenda items.

Commissioner Mike Lennier accepted a bid from Standridge Equipment, the high bidder on the sale or trade of a used tractor for District 2, with a bid of $35,450. P & K Equipment of Norman was the only other bidder, with a bid of $35,284.32.

The board approved a proclamation celebrating Grady Memorial Hospital’s 50th anniversary, which Lennier will present to hospital officials at a ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Commissioners also approved setting up an Estray Animal Account for the Grady County Sheriff’s Office, with Sheriff Art Kell and Undersheriff Jim Weir acting as Requisitioning Officers and Gary Journeycake and Sabra Martin acting as Receiving Officers.

Kell said a stray cow in the Bradley/Alex area has been running around the countryside for months. After receiving complaints, Kell said his office hired an individual to round up the cow. After advertising about the animal for two weeks, no one claimed it so the cow was sold for $457.40. A total of $300 was paid to the individual for feeding and care of the animal and the remaining $157.40 was placed in the new Estray Animal account.

Next, the board approved the renewal of a bond for the Grady County Fire Department Treasurer.

Commissioners took no action on the return of a recently-donated 2006 H2 vehicle for the sheriff’s office.
