County approves $8 million bond issue

Karen Brady

The Grady County Commissioners unanimously approved an $8 million bond issue for the Grady County School Finance Authority to build a new high school in the Bridgecreek School District.

In addition, the existing bus barn at the present school will demolished, with the new school building taking its place. A new bus barn and parking lot will also be built with the funds.

Next, the board approved a lease agreement for the Grady County Clerk and Industry Systems for laser printers and a back up computer system.

Also approved was a claim from Cobb Engineering Co. of Oklahoma City for a survey of the Washita River overflow on a bridge one half mile north of Verden that collapsed last spring.

Finally, citizen Virginia Wilkins asked the board for a right-of-way on a section line that has a closed road so she, and others, may have open access to her property.

According to Wilkins, the deed to the property stated that right-of-way was granted only to her husband, who has passed away. The right-of-way was passed to her after his death, but, according to Wilkins the current right-of-way applies only to her and, now that she wants to sell the property, she says the land owners refuse to grant it to others.

The property in question is in District No. 2, so Commissioner Mike Lennier advised Wilkins to contact all land owners involved to ask them to grant a right-of-way.

“I need to know you have exhausted all possibilities,” said Lennier. “I need to know they will not give you permission.”

Lennier said he will go out to the property and review the situation and will place the item on next week’s agenda.
