A Roundup with Beef
The Express-Star
AMBER -- Six Grady County 4-H officers put their leadership skills to work recently and taught workshops to 27 youth from across the county.
Fishing lure boards, bandana decorating, gps mapping, puzzle making, cookie decorating, snow globe making, picture taking, and bug pinning were all part of the happenings during the annual Grady County 4-H Junior Roundup in the Amber Pocasset cafeteria.
“I had a blast showing the kids how to pin insects so they could make an exhibit to enter in the county fair," John Nelson, Grady County 4th junior director, said. "I definitely learned a lot about presenting a workshop to kids that aren’t much older than I am and I will be able to use these skills in the future.”
Grady County 4-H members were introduced to the hobby of geocaching taught by Tuttle 4-H clubs’ volunteer leader Cindy McCoy. Blayne Horn, John Nelson and Hannah Nelson of Chickasha, Ashtin Green and Keely Ratcliffe of Amber Poccasset, along with Aubrey McCoy, of Tuttle and Dashanna Ryans of Alex made up the County Officer team teaching the workshops.
Lunch was provided by Chisholm Trail Farm Credit.
4-H leadership projects, such as Junior Roundup, allow these teens to develop and learn life skills at an early age.
With continued involvement in the Oklahoma 4-H program, as young adults, they will be experienced in planning and organizing, problem solving, and leading others.
They will also develop an acute sense of self-responsibility.
Plans are currently underway for next year’s Junior Roundup as well as many other themed, day camps.
