Commissioners meet, announce FEMA recovery center opening

Grady County Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson announced Monday that a FEMA Wildfire Disaster Recovery Center will open in Blanchard June 29 for Grady and McClain counties.

The center, in the Blanchard High School cafeteria at N. E. 2nd (Hwy 62) and Tyler, will be operated by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U. S. Small Business Administration.

Recovery centers are set up to assist residents whose homes were destroyed or damaged as a result of wildfires April 9-12.

In addition, Thompson submitted an updated 2009 Grady County Emergency Operating Plan to the Grady County Commissioners.

In other business, commissioners and other officials:

• Opened several bids, including bids for a pickup for the Grady County Treasurer’s Office and another for a vehicle for the Grady County Assessor’s Office

• Accepted a $24,698 bid for a 2009 pickup from Knipplemier Chevrolet in Blanchard. Burton did not accept a lower bid from Charles Allen Ford because the bid did not meet bid specifications. She will attach a letter of reason to the purchase order and submit it to the county clerk’s office

• Rejected the bids for a vehicle for the assessor’s office.

• Accepted a $450 per month bid for janitorial services for the Grady County District Attorney’s Office by Grands Cleaning Service. The DA submitted a letter of reason since this was not the lowest bid. Other bidders were The Professionals with a bid of $450 and Tammie Harris with a bid of $425.

• Accepted a bid from Brown’s Plumbing, of Blanchard, for labor only for plumbing for the courthouse with a bid of $100 per hour. The other bidder, A-1 Plumbing submitted a bid of $55 per hour for a plumber and an additional $25 per hour for a plumber’s assistant. However, the bid did not meet all the requested specifications.

• Accepted a bid from Royal Printing Company, Inc. for typesetting, printing and delivery of ballot proofs, OPTECH ballot cards, and sample ballots for the Grady County Election Board.

The board requested bids for janitorial services for the Ag Center and there was no action on the labor-only bids for plumbing for the stall barn at the Grady County Fairgrounds.
