69th Chickasha Rodeo set for Friday, Saturday

It’s time to saddle up and head for the Grady County Fairgrounds for the 69th annual Chickasha Rodeo.

The rodeo, which is the oldest in Chickasha and dates back to 1939, will be held Friday and Saturday, June 27-28 at 8 p.m. each evening.

As part of the event, a parade will be held in downtown Chickasha starting at 4 p.m. near the Chickasha Hotel, moving west down Choctaw Ave. to Seventh St. and then back east on Chickasha Ave.

The rodeo will feature popular events like bull and bronc riding, calf roping, barrel racing and a calf scramble for the kids.

In addition, there will be a special event called the “Ring of Fear,” in which five volunteers will stand inside a ring in the arena as a bull is let out of a chute. The volunteers may dodge the bull any way they can without stepping out of their respective rings. The last man standing is the winner.

The Chickasha Rodeo is presented by the Rafter D Rodeo Company of Sterling.Adults are $8 and children are $4. Parking is free. For more information, call 224-0282.
