70th Chickasha Rodeo set for June 26-27

The 70th annual Chickasha Rodeo Foundation Rodeo will be held June 26 -27 at 8 p.m. nightly at the Grady County Fairgrounds.

Events will include bronc ridiing, bull riding, barrel racing and more.

A popular event is the Ring of Fear, where five circles are drawn on the arena floor with a man standing in each circle. A bull is then let out and the last man still standing in his circle wins.

“It’s a crowd pleaser,” said Rodeo Coordinator Brian Leonard.

The event, which is put on by Rafter D Rodeo Company of Sterling is an open rodeo not affiliated with and rodeo association. As such, anyone may compete in the rodeo and more than 400 contestants attend nightly.

A parade will be held Saturday, June 27 in downtown Chickasha. The starting place for the parade is at 1st St. and Chickasha Ave. Clubs and organizations will meet at 3 p.m. to obtain their number and place in the lineup. Lineup is at 3:30 p.m. and the parade begins at 4 p.m.

There will be trophies awarded for the following categories;

Best Organization: Reference to riding clubs or horse performing organizations. The winner of the parade must be able to set pivots for the Saturday night performance.

Best Individual: Authentic western attire, individual representatives of clubs or organizations.

Best Commercial: Antique tractors, floats and any type of business.

First place winners will receive $150, second place winners will receive $100 and third place winners will receive $50.
