CVTC inducts 13 into OSSM class



CHICKASHA - The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics inducted 13 area students into its newest regional center - Canadian Valley Technology Center in Chickasha - recently. The convocation ceremony was conducted by George Tiner, assistant superintendent at CVTC, and Dr. Jack Herron, OSSM Outreach Coordinator. Herron gave a brief introduction of the program then both Herron and Tiner gave each student a certificate of membership into the program.

Students who were accepted into the program, which will begin in August of this year, are Jenifer McElroy, Am-Po High School; Whitney Clarkson and Hannah Harrison, both of Alex High School; Dao Thong Lim, Chickasha Middle School; Trent Boesen and Chelsea Johnson, both of Ninnekah High School; Haley Jones, Kody McKay, and Shelby Nottingham, all of Rush Springs High School; John Moore, Tuttle High School; and Daniel Edwards, Keyla Glass, and Ryan Rennels, all of Verden High School.

Juliette Dalhed was hired as the program’s AP Physics instructor this March. She formerly taught Physics at the University of Oklahoma and is currently working on her masterís degree in physics at OU. Joining Dalhed in June will be Michelle Eiss, who will teach AP Calculus. Eiss comes to OSSM from Lawton Public Schools as a mathematics instructor.

OSSM began its first regional center at the Central Technology Center, Drumright campus, in 1997 and now has 16 sites across the state, including its newest one at CVTC in Chickasha. Since its inception, more than 1300 students have completed the regional programs.
