More than a dozen members of Grady County’s OHCE met with the Grady County Commissioners to witness the proclamation declaring OHCE Week. A representative from each group told the board about their good works and thanked the Commissioners for their support by presenting them with a Friendship Cake baked by Betty Brannan.
Extension Educator Susan Routh introduced the OHCE Clubs and Club President Donna Standridge told the board that the Grady County OHCE has the third largest membership in a 20-county district.
Representatives included Charla Posey of Friend, Janice Corley of Friendly Mound, Myrtle Elston of Lucile-Blue Bonnet, Margaret Scott of Rural Neighbors, Sandra Grodecki of Spring Creek, Shirley Burns of Ninnekah and Mary Spurlin of Meridian-Happy Home.
Sue Gilliam, southwest representative at the state level, submitted a program of events for the upcoming Southwest District Meeting. Myrtle Elston read the OHCE Week Proclamation proclaiming May 4-10, 2008 as Home and Community Education Week and May 5, 2008 Home and Community Education Day throughout Grady County.
The board thanked the clubs for all they do for the county.
According to District No. 1 Commissioner Windle Hardy, the city of Minco’s water wells are not pumping sufficient amounts of water and, as a result, the county trucked in water from Tuttle all last weekend. It has not been determined what must be done to get water levels back up to an acceptable level.
Hardy did have some good news for motorists in western Grady County. The bridge on the Gin Road west of Minco was reopened last Thursday and is expected to be fully completed soon.
In addition, the bridge in the 100 block of CR 1260 is expected to be reopened later this week.
Grady County Sheriff Kieran McMullen told the board his weekly estimated expenditure for gas has jumped from $1,600 a week earlier this year to $2,750 a week.
In other business, the board voted to go out for bids on a used front end loader for District No. 1, and approved a motion to reimburse the Grady County Election Board M & O account for the purchase of a new copier and computer.
Finally, citizen Roy Mosier asked the board for help with the installation of a tinhorn so a gate may be installed in a right-of-way area. Hardy told Mosier to contact District No. 1 barn and make the necessary arrangements.
