Please come and join us at the YMCA parking lot from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. across from the radio station for a special time of prayer for the leaders and needs of our city, our county, our state, our nation, and our world. Ninnekah FBC
takes food orders
Angel Food orders will be taken at the Ninnekah First Baptist Church Tuesday, Tuesday, May 5 through Friday, May 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. The last day to order is Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Food will be distributed on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Some of the May specials available include May Special number one, a six-pound meat assortment consisting of bone-in strip steaks, thick-cut pork chops, bacon-wrapped beef patties and Bratwurst with cheese for $22; May Special number two, featuring eight eight-ounce sirloin strip steaks; and May Special number three which includes two pounds of steak fajita strips, chicken breast fajita strips, onions, bell peppers and flour tortillas for $21. Craig Meyer Walk
set for Thursday
The Craig Meyer Memorial Walk for Special Olympics will be held Thursday, May 7th at the High School football/track from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. The cost is $20 which can be paid at the walk. "Come and Go or Come and Stay. Stay as long as you like and walk as much as you want. All proceeds from the walk will go to Chickasha Special Olympics and Special Olympics Oklahoma. Rotary Club
hosts benefit run
The 16th annual Chickasha Rotary 5 km Run will be Saturday, May 16 at 8 a.m. at Shanoan Springs Park. The entry fee is $15 with a T-shirt and $12 without. There will be $450 in cash prizes awarded in open class male and female athletes. Proceeds benefit Greater Chickasha Community Project. host Alumni dinner
Cix City Alumni, former students, parents, and teachers are welcomed to attend the Cox City Reunion on June 6, at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. An informal reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the snack bar area; a time to visit and look at photos and memories of time past. The banquet and meeting will be held in the ballroom from 6-9:30 p.m. We will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary Class of 1958, the last graduating class of Cox City High School. Ninnekah OHCE
sets bake sale
The Ninnekah OHCE will be holding a bake sale on Friday May 8th in the Petroleum Building in downtown Chickasha. Each year the Ninnekah OHCE donates scholarships to graduating seniors or returning adult students. This event is always held during OHCE week, which is intended to highlight the many community activities that OHCE members are involved with. Last year the Ninnekah OHCE donated $1,000.00 in scholarship money. Among the many items that will be available will be Ninnekah’s famous cinnamon rolls, chocolate and coconut cream pies, carrot cake, Italian Cream cake, sweet breads, yeast breads, cookies, and much more. This will be a perfect opportunity to purchase your special Mother’s Day items. The bake sale will be from 9:00 to 4:00 at 401 W. P.E.O. Chapter FV meets Monday
Members of P.E.O. Chapter FV will meet Mon., May 4, 2009 in the home of Lynn Heck. Members are reminded to bring their favorite foods and recipes to share at FV’s traditional spring supper, which begins at 6 pm. The business meeting is to follow at 7 pm. Co-hostess is Bobi Elliott. Jan Storms, Chapter FV President, will present the program ‘Sharing the Light from State Convention’. Marguerites will not be revealed at this meeting, but at a meeting in the fall.
Vidalia onion sale benefits Shriners
The India Shrine Center is having its annual vidalia onion sale again this year. Carey Wilkerson is taking orders at 224-6230. The cost is $10 for a 10-pound bag. The arrival date is April 28, with delivery as soon as possible. Proceeds benefit the Shriner’s transportation fund.
OHCE Week set for May 4-10
Oklahoma Home and Community Education of Grady County will host an event celebrating OHCE Week, May 4-10. The event will take place at the Community Building at the Grady County Fairgrounds on Monday, May 4, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A representative from Grady County Department of Human Services will speak to the group about the needs of Grady County’s limited resources for families and the elderly. The public is welcome to attend.
Comanche HS hosts tourney
The Comanche High School Fast Pitch team will be holding a weekend tournament for T-ball and U8 and U10 machine pitch softball teams to raise money for a tournament trip to Colorado. The four-game guarantee “Mother’s Day Bash” will be held from Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10. Entry fees are $75 for T-ball teams and $100 for the machine pitch teams. Agency on Aging
photo contest set
The Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments (ASCOG) Area Agency on Aging is seeking entries for its second annual senior citizens photography contest. Anyone 55 or older living in the ASCOG area is invited to participate. ASCOG serves Caddo, Cotton, Comanche, Grady, Jefferson, McClain, Stephens and Tillman counties. Photographs may be any subject, color and style but photographs must be a 4X6 duplicate. Contestants may submit up to three photographs and are encouraged to submit copies because photographs will not be returned. Photos will be scored by an independent panel of judges. The contestant with the best overall photograph will receive a prize packet, a feature article in the “Aging Advocate” and recognition at his or her local senior center. fast-pitch tourney
The 4th annual Kiwanis Founder Day Fast-Pitch Softball tournament will be played Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 at Lindsay’s Griffith Sports Complex. Classes will be 8U, machine pitch, 12U and Class C. There will be a $125 entree. There will be a four-game guarantee. Each team must bring two game balls. Pocasset Lodge
hosts fundraiser
There will be an area volunteer fire department fundraiser dinner sponsored by the Pocasset Masonic Lodge on Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Minco Fire Department located at 107 N.W. 3rd St. in Minco. There is no charge for the meal which includes pulled pork barbecue with all the trimmings and desserts made by the wives of the volunteer firemen. Excess desserts will be auctioned off at various times throughout the day. All monies received will be distributed among the Minco, Cogar, Harold and Pocasset fire departments. Cash donations will be accepted at the door.
Reunion deadline approaching
The Chickasha High School, Class of 1989, will be celebrating their twenty year class reunion, July 17-18, 2009 in Chickasha. Various activities have been planned and scheduled. Confirmations and payments are requested by May 20, 2009. Cost for the weekend, all inclusive, are singles, $50 and couples, $100. Saturday evening dinner/festivities are only $40 per person. Reunion photos available at additional cost.

Line Dance
lessons offered
Free line dance lessons are being offered at Best Western Inn in Chickasha, 2101 S. 4th St., across the street from McDonalds. Classes are held on the first and third Monday of every month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the banquet room. Beginners and all ages are welcome. Door prizes and refreshments are served. Tournament to help Relay for Life
Midwest Tower’s Relay for LIfe teams is sponsoring a softball tournament to help Relay for Life. There will be a men’s tournament on May 2, and a co-ed tournament on May 16. The fee is $110 a team, first and second place receive t-shirts, and all proceeds go to Relay for Life. The tournament will take place at Amber High School Field, 401 East Main in Amber.
