Vidalia onions sale benefits Shriners
The India Shrine Center is having their annual Vidalia onion sale again this year. Carey Wilkerson is taking orders at 224-6230. The onions are $10 for a 10 pound bag. The arrival date is targeted for April 28, with delivery to be made as soon as possible. Proceeds benefit the Shriners’ Transportation Fund. Call Carey and leave a message.
Pocasset Lodge
hosts fundraiser
There will be an area volunteer fire department fundraiser dinner sponsored by the Pocasset Masonic Lodge on Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Minco Fire Department located at 107 N.W. 3rd St. in Minco. There is no charge for the meal which includes pulled pork BBQ with all the trimmings and desserts made by the wives of the volunteer firemen. Excess desserts will be auctioned off at various times throughout the day. All monies received will be distributed among four area fire departments: Minco, Cogar, Harold, and Pocasset. Cash donations will be accepted at the door.
Pioneer FD
sets fundraiser
The Pioneer Fire Departmemnt will hold its annual fundraiser featuring chopped barbecue brisket sandwiches and a bake sale on Saturday, May 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pioneer School. Proceeds will go to help outfit the recently-purchased brush rig.

Angel Food orders will be taken at the Ninnekah First Baptist Church Tuesday, April 28 through Friday, May1 and Tuesday, May 5 through Friday, May 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. The last day to order is Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Food will be distributed on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Some of the May specials available include May Special number one, a six-pound meat assortment consisting of bone-in strip steaks, thick-cut pork chops, bacon-wrapped beef patties and Bratwurst with cheese for $22; May Special number two, featuring eight eight-ounce sirloin strip steaks; and May Special number three which includes two pounds of steak fajita strips, chicken breast fajita strips, onions, bell peppers and flour tortillas for $21. Line Dance
lessons offered
Free line dance lessons are being offered at Best Western Inn in Chickasha, 2101 S. 4th St., across the street from McDonalds. Classes are held on the first and third Monday of every month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the banquet room. Beginners and all ages are welcome. Door prizes and refreshments are served. Day of Prayer

DivorceCare group to meet
DivorceCare, and special help seminar for support group for people experiencing separation and divorce, will be held on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. starting April 26 at Epworth United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center. Enrollment is open and participants may join at amy time. Admission is free and child care is available with pre-registration. The church is located on the corner of Iowa and 4th Street in Chickasha. On Sunday, April 26, our entire church family invites anyone and everyone to come visit us. Calvary Baptist Church is located at 1102 S. 13th St. in Chickasha. The doors are open to everyone in the community. This will be an exciting day to be in church, with a free ham lunch with all the fixings. Terrific Tuesday to meet April 28
Terrific Tuesday is a community service provided by Epworth United Methodist Church for retired persons. It meets every fourth Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the New Life Center. During the morning those attending can choose an activity: Cards, dominoes, checkers, puzzles and other board games. Bring a snack lunch, coffee and tea are provided. A singing of “Golden Oldies” and favorite hymns follow lunch. If you are a caregiver for a person who is ambulatory, bring that person down. You may stay and enjoy the activities or you are free to shop and run errands. If you need transportation, call the church office at 224-3320 and someone will pick you up. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 28.

A chili cook-off funderaiser featuring Horshoe Road Band will benefit the Epworth United Methodist Church Music Department. The concert and chili cook-off begins at noon, Sunday, April 26. Horseshoe Road is a violin and guitar duo with a unique blend of eclectic musical styles that are expressed acoustically. This great time will include a concert, chili, soup, desserts, and more! Epworth UMC is located at 4th and Iowa Street and everyone is welcome to attend.
Chickasha Bible study to meet
The Chickasha Bible study group will meet at the Chickasha Library at 7:30 p.m. every Monday. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.
Tournament to help Relay for Life
Midwest Tower’s Relay for LIfe teams is sponsoring a softball tournament to help Relay for Life. There will be a men’s tournament on May 2, and a co-ed tournament on May 16. The fee is $110 a team, first and second place receive t-shirts, and all proceeds go to Relay for Life. The tournament will take place at Amber High School Field, 401 East Main in Amber. Please help Newborns in Need set the Guiness World Record for helping babies on May 7 at the Chickasha Library from 4-7 p.m. Items needed are diapers (preemie, newborn, size 1), sleepers, gowns, and onesies (preemies to 3 mo.), baby wash (preferably Johnson &Johnson fragrant free), diaper rash ointment, diaper wipes, BPA free bottles, formula (Enfamil powder preferred), Wal-Mart, Target or Babies R Us gift card. Team USAO Relay for Life are selling $1 tickets, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, for a variety of prizes. fast-pitch teams
LAWRENCE, KS -- The 15th Annual Haskell Men’s & Women’s Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament in conjunction with the Haskell Indian Nations Commencement activities will be held at the Clinton Lake Sports Complex on May 9-10, 2009. Last year the approximately 22 mens teams and 3 womens teams competed. Teams from KS, OK, CA, FL, NE, MO & SD were represented. The tournament has been opened up to allow non-native teams as well as some of the finest Native American teams throughout the U.S. Entry Fee is $200, deadline is May 4th.
