The Grady County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that firearms turned over to them by the Chickasha Police Department are the guns that were recently stolen from the home of one of their deputies in November.

The Colt AR-15 and Remington shotgun were both turned over to the CPD by two men on December 27.

Chief Lynn Williams would not disclose the names of the two men, nor would he confirm if they are suspects because the CPD turned the investigation over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations in December.

The guns were stolen from the home of a deputy who is on military deployment. They were not among items he check in last summer before leaving.

“We are thankful to have the guns back. I don’t think it would have been possible without the help from the media. Someone read that those guns were stolen and didn’t want to have anything to do with stolen guns from a sheriff’s department,” said Grady County Sheriff Art Kell.

“We got real lucky on this one and the guns are currently being held in the evidence lockup. But like I said I want to stress that the media was key to these weapons being recovered,’ added Kell.
