    A 16-year-old boy who drowned in a Cooperland raceway pond Friday was not associated with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCA North Central Oklahoma area representative John Talley said.

  • Police: economy may be driving thefts
    A saw, an air conditioner, and a tractor didn’t have much in common until Monday. That was when they were all reported stolen -- and became the latest on a long June list of stolen items in Chickasha.
    The current economic malaise may be causing an increasing number of city thefts, Assistant Police Chief Elip Moore said. Police reported several thefts in various parts of the city Monday.
    Police have arrested quite a few burglars in June, but tough economic conditions could continue to spearhead an uptick in thefts, Moore said.

    Chickasha’s Muscle Car Ranch will once again celebrate Independence Day with beer and music.
    Chickasha City Council members voted 7-2 in special session recently to allow Muscle Car Ranch owner Curtis Hart to sell beer at his venue. The ruling allows beer sales at the Ranch for the next three years.

    Grady County Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson announced Monday that a FEMA Wildfire Disaster Recovery Center will open in Blanchard June 29 for Grady and McClain counties.
    The center, in the Blanchard High School cafeteria at N. E. 2nd (Hwy 62) and Tyler, will be operated by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U. S. Small Business Administra
