Open auditions for annual performance of “The Oklahoma Nutcracker”

— The Norman Ballet Company will be holding auditions for area dancers and performers for its 2012 production of “The Oklahoma Nutcracker”, as well as company members and apprentices.

 This year marks the 11th anniversary of “The Oklahoma Nutcracker”, which has performed to sold-out audiences since 2002 and become a holiday tradition for families statewide.  Last year’s cast included dancers and actors from Norman, Oklahoma City, Moore, Edmond, Lindsay, Washington, Lexington, Purcell, Piedmont and Blanchard.  The 2012 Oklahoma Nutcracker will be performed on Sunday November 25, 3:00 PM. at the Nancy O’Brian Center for the Performing Arts.

 The auditions are set for Saturday August 25, at the Kovich School of Ballet, 1312 South Berry Road, Norman.  There is a $10 audition fee per dancer/actor.

 Dancers must contact the Norman Ballet Company to make audition reservations and confirm their audition time by e-mailing  The dancer’s height must be included in the request. There is a $10 audition fee per dancer.

 Children ages 7 years and older are eligible to audition for roles as Party Scene children, mice, soldiers and baby armadillos. Children must have a minimum of one year of ballet class experience.

 Dancers 11 years and older with a minimum of  3 years of dance training may audition of roles as angels, cowgirls/cowboys, rose rock princesses, Act I toys, and select corps de ballet roles.

 Children are selected according to size, musicality, expression, ability to follow directions and ballet skills.  To be eligible to audition, the dancer’s birth date must be no later than 10-01-05.

 Dancers 12 and older may audition for positions as Norman Ballet Company members and apprentices, as well as for additional roles in the corps de ballet. A minimum of four years of ballet training and a minimum of one year of pointe work is required.  For dancers auditioning as Company dancers, a minimum of three ballet classes per week is also a requirement.

 Roles for dancers 12 and older include: Snow Scene, Mistletoe Angels, Act II variations, Waltz of the Indian Paintbrushes, as well as Act I Party Scene parents and dolls.

 Actors/ stage performers with dance skills are also needed for roles as the Nutcracker Prince, Parents in the Party Scene and other Act I acting roles. 

 Girls attire: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes.  Bring pointe shoes if applicable.

 Boys attire: white t-shirt, shorts or black tights, ballet shoes or heavy socks.
