Biennial Quilt Show set for May 9-10

— The Stitching Memories Quilt Guild is preparing for their biennial quilt show to be held Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, 2014, 9:00 am-5:00 pm at the Stephens County Fairgrounds, 2002 South 13th Street, Duncan, OK.  Entry fee is $5.00 for adults with children free.  Each person paying to get in will receive a goody bag with lots of items including a pocket tissue holder made by a guild member.  The fairgrounds offer lots of free parking for cars, vans, and/or buses.  The theme for this year’s quilt show is Spring on the Chisholm Trail with Fancy Sue (AKA Sunbonnet Sue).  The queen size raffle quilt features blocks of appliquéd Sunbonnet Sue on a white background with red and white fencing in the sashing and outside border.  Tickets will be available at 1/$1.00 or 6/$5.00 until the drawing late Saturday afternoon—you do not need to be present to win this precious quilt.  Funds raised through the quilt shows allow the members to increase their knowledge of the art of quilting from well-known quilt instructors/artists.  The funds also are extremely important to the guild’s Community Service projects which have included The Stephens County Youth Shelter, Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma, Women’s Haven, and the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ Backpack program.

Once again, there will be something going on in every room at the fairgrounds.  Over 150 quilts will be on exhibit with the majority of those quilts being judged by a certified AQS judge.  This same judge will be offering quilt appraisals on Friday—contact Sharon at 580-606-0525 to schedule an appointment time.  There will be up to ten vendors offering fabric, patterns, thread, notions, and rulers.  These vendors as well as others will be providing demonstrations all day long—each day.  A coffee can raffle will offer an Oliso iron, Ott floor lamp, beautiful quilt rack, and large box of fat quarters.  The coffee can raffle works like the quilt raffle; however, you can divide your tickets among the items you really want to win or all tickets on one favorite item.  A silent auction will offer numerous items made by guild members.  There will be door prizes offered frequently throughout each day and the guild’s Country Store will have many items available for sale:  quilting magazines and books, baby quilts, wall hangings, sewing machine organizer, hand towels, place mats, microwave bowl, and many others.

Judy Howard,, a well-known quilt historian will be providing a bed turning each day with many of the quilts offered for sale.

The Stephens County 4-H Club will be providing lunch each day from 11:00 am-2:00 pm in the kitchen with the Stephens County OHCE Clubs providing delicious desserts all day long each day.

The guild invites you to come and spend the day(s) with us while we entertain you with the quilts we have been working on along with the other activities that will be available.  For more information, email or call Oley at 580-252-0971 or Linda at 580-467-3014.
