Students compete in BPA contest; Carlisle selected for state office

Five students in Shelia McMurry’s Interactive Media and Web Technology program at CV Tech’s Chickasha campus competed recently at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference, which took place in Tulsa.

Joshua Carlisle, a first-year adult student, was selected to represent Canadian Valley Technology as the BPA Post-secondary Vice President on the State Executive Council. Carlisle and McMurry will travel to Chicago for the BPA National Leadership Conference April 24–29. Carlisle will also compete in the Post-secondary Interview Skills competition.

The post-secondary broadcast production team brought home second place. Team members include Samantha Brooks, Joshua Carlisle and Kerry Teague.

Students who competed in individual, post-secondary contests at the BPA state conference are:

Taylor Hale, adult, 2nd place in Advanced Interview

Kerry Teague, adult, 3rd place in Digital Media

Joshua Carlisle, adult, 3rd place in Interview Skills

Debbie Terry, adult, 4th place in Desktop Publishing

Samantha Brooks, 6th place in Graphic Design Poster

Hale was also honored with a BPA Torch Award, and a $500 Gina Hubbard Scholarship.

McMurry is extremely proud of her students’ performance this year. “This will be the ninth consecutive year that students from the Interactive Media and Web Technology program will represent CV Tech at the National Leadership Conference,” she said. “Josh is also the third state BPA officer that has come out of this program. I am very proud of him and his classmates and all the work they put in to his campaign.”

BPA is one of seven CareerTech student organizations, and is an integral part of the CareerTech system. Students enrolled in Business and Information Technology Education (BITE) courses are eligible to be a part of BPA. At CV Tech’s Chickasha campus, students in Interactive Media and Web Technology and Business Office Technology are also members of BPA.
