Autism Awareness group forming

With the help of a thoughtful donation from Chickasha Masonic Lodge, a group of Moms with children in the Chickasha Schools Special Education Program have formed a support group for those affected by Autism and other Special Needs. The group is going by the name of, The Chickasha Autism Awareness & Support Group. This group is a place for those affected to come and meet people who share and can relate to their life struggles of raising/caring for/teaching a child with special needs. We also strive for the meetings to be educational and place to find needed resources by way of guest speakers and activities.

The group is an open group that meets on the third Thursday of every month at Parkview Christian Church, 2828 South 9th Street in Chickasha from 6-7:30 p.m. On-site childcare and activities are provided for children as well as snacks and refreshments for all.

This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, April 19th with Nikki Ricks of the Lawton Public Schools Autism Program presenting the program. She will be speaking about the benefits of ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) Therapy in children with special needs and will also talk about understanding your child’s IEP as well as answering questions or addressing concerns.

If you have any questions, concerns or need directions please call. Also, if you plan on attending and bringing children, please give us a heads up so that we can make sure that there is an adequate number of caregivers present. You may do either by calling Rhiannon Ferguson at 580-917-4215. We look forward to seeing you!
