Local student designs conference pin

It’s a tradition for Business Professionals of America (BPA) members from across the nation to trade their state’s official pin with other members at the annual National Conference.

This summer, at the 2010 conference in Anaheim, Calif., Oklahoma BPA members will be trading a pin designed by Canadian Valley Technology Center student Clayton Maynard.

Maynard’s pin design was chosen among dozens of other designs from across the state as a top three finalist, and was then voted on recently by BPA members at the Fall Leadership Conference to represent Oklahoma as the official state pin design.

The pin is used by Oklahoma members who attend the National Leadership conference for trading with other national conference attendees. Maynard is a first year adult student in the Interactive Media and Web Technology program.

Several Canadian Valley Technology Center BPA members attended the BPA fall leadership conference Oct. 20 at Oklahoma City University.

This year’s conference attendees were exposed to a variety of leadership immersion activities, as well as officer workshops. Each officer in attendance received a handbook to guide them through their responsibilities as a BPA member and officer, ensuring the chapter a successful year.

Some 1,000 middle school, high school and post-secondary students from across the state attended the fall leadership conference. Attendees experienced a dynamic keynote presentation from Oklahoma business leader Ray McCarter. A Leadership Academy was led by motivational speaker Kelly Barnes, of Your Next Speaker. The conference ended with the traditional Torch Ceremony.

BPA is one of seven student organizations affiliated with CareerTech programs. The other six include FFA and Agricultural Education, DECA and Marketing Education, TSA and Technology Education, HOSA and Health Careers Education, FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and SkillsUSA and Trade and Industry Education.
