Grady County Sheriff's Office Deputy Corey Loftice successfully underwent surgery on Monday. After finishing his last round of dialysis, Loftice underwent a kidney transplant Monday afternoon.
The last update that Sheriff Jim Weir heard was that the transplant was successful.
"The last we heard, the transplant has been successful and his kidneys are reproducing urine."
Weir and the rest of the Sheriff's office are happy about the outcome.
"We were just totally elated around here, cause we know Corey's been putting up such a tough fight and being tough through the whole thing."
Weir said that a donor was found for Loftice around three months ago, but tests had to be done to get to this point.
