The Chickasha Public Library is announcing lots of free activities through December.
From 5 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 17, the library will host a Youth Book Trivia Night. Attendees are welcome to dress as the their favorite book character to enjoy snacks and book trivia.
From 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 18, the library wants to bring families together for the first Family reading night.
Also on Oct. 18 at 6:30, anyone is welcome to join in an interest meeting for the 2nd Annual Books Come Alive event. Anyone interested in being a book character or otherwise volunteering may attend the meeting. Those who cannot attend the meeting but who would like to help may call the library at 405-222-6075.
At 5 p.m. on Oct. 26, local children are invited to bring their bravest stuffed animal for the library's 4th Annual Teddy Bear Sleepover. This year there will be a space-themed program. At 6 p.m., the children go home and leave their stuffed animal to enjoy a night at the library. Their adventures will be posted on the Chickasha Public Library's Facebook page that night. The stuffed animals may be picked up the following morning at 10 a.m.
The library will hold their Preschool Storytime year-round. Preschool Storytime is a story hour for children ages five and younger, held on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m .and 11 a.m. Children get to read books with their adult, books are read aloud to the group by the librarian and everyone can join in for the songs, games and crafts.
Beginning Nov. 1, the library will be bringing back the Baby Lap-sit program. This program is geared towards babies age zero to eighteen months. Baby Lap-sit will be every Thursday morning throughout the school year at 9:30 a.m. It is never to early to play and read with babies and this program will be a great opportunity to meet and talk with other parents.
On Nov. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the Chickasha Public Library will host their 2nd annual Books Come Alive and Local Authors Festival event. This year the library is using books from the PBS Great American Reads booklist, there will be actors portraying book characters, book scavenger hunts, prizes, and fun for all. There is also an opportunity for the public to meet local authors, discuss their books, and buy them. Both events are free. Donations will be welcome at the door.
Starting Dec. 1, the library will have a special guest visiting the children section. Between Dec. 1 and 21, children can locate the Elf on the Shelf at the Library, find out what the elf is reading, and add their names to a drawing for a chance to take the elf home on Dec. 21 at the Elf on the Shelf holiday party.
Chapter Chat, the Chickasha Public Library’s adult book club, continues this fall. The book for October is Warlight: A Novel by Michael Ondaatje. Chapter Chat meets on the last Monday of each month at 6:00 pm. All are welcome and can join at any point.
