A Chickasha man allegedly fled with his child during an agreed-upon visit on Monday, according to an incident report.

Chickasha Police responded to an alleged kidnapping in the area of 20th St. and Virginia Ave. The reporting party said Johnathan Dwayne Crawford took a one-year-old child. Dispatch advised Crawford was running northbound on 20th St. with the child, and had stopped at the intersection of 20th St. and Missouri Ave.

Chickasha Police Officer Zachary Pineira arrived at the scene and observed Crawford standing at the intersection with the child in his arms. Crawford obeyed the officer's orders to put the child down, the report said.

Crawford allegedly told Officer Pineira that the child was his and there was no custody agreement between himself and the child's mother, the report said.

The child's mother told Officer Pineira she had allowed Crawford to come to her residence to visit the child. Crawford had allegedly not visited the child in the last year, the report said. While in the front yard, Crawford allegedly grabbed the child and began running.

The woman began chasing after Crawford. She was able to get someone driving by to assist in helping her catch up with Crawford, the report said.

When she caught up with Crawford, she allegedly reached out her arms and asked him to give the child back. Crawford allegedly responded by pushing the woman to the ground.

Officer Pineira observed a cut on the woman's leg and that her ankle was red and swollen, the report said.

A witness told Officer Pineira they saw the woman get out of the vehicle and run over to Crawford, who was holding the child. The witness allegedly saw Crawford hit the woman and push her to the ground while the child was in his arms, the report said.

Crawford was placed under arrest for domestic assault and battery in the presence of a child and transported to the Grady County Jail.
