Transformations 12-14-2010

— Change, it’s been said that the only thing certain in life is change. Living here in Oklahoma, we know that the weather can change at any second, winter in the morning and summer in the afternoon, crazy but oh so true, right?

How do you look at change? Some people tend to freak out when things change or are different. They have to maintain a sense of normalcy. An example would be a set routine. The same set daily patterns performed religiously every day. Everything from getting up in the morning, to how to go to bed at night, the route driven to work, the exact time meals are to be eaten and the list goes on and on.

On the other hand, there are others that live at the other end of the spectrum in regards to change. They are more of a free spirit. They like to experiment. They like to see what happens if . . .? This type of person tends to journey down the road less traveled and totally enjoys the thrill of it.

Which one of these are you or are you a combination of the two? For me, I feel more to align with the second, but I am still grounded with a touch of the first. Change helps me to grow, to stretch myself out of my comfort zones and to find alternative ways to do things. I get bored very easy, so if things stay the same for too long, I feel the need to create some type of change making life fresh, new and exciting.

In my professional life, my primary purpose is to help others create truly extraordinary changes for themselves both in their daily and long-term lives and in the lives of others. In other words, I create life-changes. This is why I chose to name my place of business Transformations Martial Arts and Personal Development Center, as well as, title this column that you are reading. To me transformations or changes are a state of life.

Change is good if we look at it as a tool for self growth, the promise of something remarkable happening to or within us. What if things never changed or new ideas or things were never created?  What if there were no cell phones, texting, computers, Facebook and I-pods?

What about the cool little Snuggie that you cuddle up with on the couch or the Tivo or DVR that you record your favorite TV shows on? Surprise, surprise, changes are taking place at a very rapid pace. We can choose to jump in learn, grow and adapt or get swept away in the tide of change.

Change is inevitable. So be grateful for all the great changes that we enjoy in our daily lives and if you feel the urge, like I do, why not go out and create some amazing changes for yourself and do it on purpose, not waiting just for change to come your way.

To Your Success!
