Published December 05, 2007 03:40 pm - Editor Chris Wilson asks 'what do you want to read?'

So, what do you want to read?

Part of the job when you’re an editor is, for better or worse, sharing opinions, editorials and columns with your readers. I’ve got plenty of ideas for how I’ll use my regular space, in the news, and in columns, but I wanted to ask a simple question before I got deep into some of the issues. See I know what I want to write, but I’m not sure what you want to read.

So, what do you want to read?

I’m taking requests on what you want to see in the Express-Star. I can’t promise that I’ll run with everything, but I want to know what has you turning pages. What kind of opinions do you want to hear? Is an area of sports you want to see? Are there home and outdoor topics you want to see regularly?

Now, before everyone starts lobbing shots at my door, let’s set a few ground rules.

First, please only submit through e-mail or a written note - I spend too much time on the phone already.

Second, let’s limit the discussion to subjects that you want to see in the paper or a column. If you want to knock the way we currently cover some topic in the paper, wait a few weeks. If you send me a bunch of complaints tomorrow, they won’t be read.

Third, please don’t get mad if I don’t respond to your suggestion. I’m just looking for a little feedback.

Fourth, don’t ask me about your carrier or your newspaper delivery.

So, you may wonder why I’m doing this - I’m basically giving Chickasha an excuse to explode my e-mail in box. Am I not giving some disgruntled reader, despite the rules I asked we play by, an excuse for fire off an angry diatribe?

Sure I am, but it’s not like people need an excuse anyway. I only get somewhere on the order of 225 e-mails a day. I already get tons of complaints from people who swear that the Chickasha website isn’t updated daily or want to know why their event doesn’t run in “Around the Area” more.

If I’m going to get these messages anyway, I want to find out I little about my readers.

So, you can send your e-mails to editor@chickashanews.com or any mail to P.O. Drawer E, Chickasha, OK, 73023
