Give Them A Reason To Believe

— I love the story in John 9 when the man born blind is healed.  The man is questioned over and over about his healing.  Jesus made clay and placed it on his eyes and told him to go wash the clay from his eyes.  When he did, sight was given.  The man had never seen and for the first time in his now adult life was able to see.  The story shows the man so filled with appreciation for his healing.  He wanted to tell everyone what Jesus had done for him.

His neighbors asked him (John 9:10), “How were your eyes opened?”  The Pharisees asked him (John 9:15), how he received his sight.  Again in John 9:26 the Pharisees asked him, “What did He do to you?  How did He open your eyes?”  The Pharisees didn’t believe in Jesus nor His ministry.  They were trying to get information to discredit the miracle.  It was the Sabbath when Jesus healed this man.  For the Pharisees their religion was more important than the need of a blind man.  They were attempting to find fault and expose Jesus as a fake.

I love the comeback from the blind man now seeing.  His response to the Pharisees was such a stand for Jesus it got him thrown out of temple worship.  John 9:27 he said, “I told you already, and you did not listen.  Why do you want to hear it again?  Do you also want to become His disciples?”  Wow, that made them mad!  With a little sarcasm in his voice the man indicated that their gathering of information about Jesus sounded more like someone who wanted to believe rather than someone who wanted to condemn.

You come in contact with people daily who need to hear what Jesus has done for you.  At times they will ask questions from a perspective of wanting to discredit, condemn, or belittle Christ.  They’ll say, “Hey you’re a Christian, tell me what good Jesus has done for you?”  We need to be ready to give an answer.  The blind man spoke up and said, “One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” (John 9:25)  You can say, “One thing I know my life was a mess, now it is fixed.”  Jesus is in the business of fixing messed up lives.

 I prayed for you,  PG
