How The Mighty Fall

— Samson is the Superman of the Bible.  One day a lion suddenly attacked and he tore it apart with his bare hands.  One evening he caught 300 foxes and tied tails together with torches and burned the enemy’s fields.  When captured by the enemy forces he used a bone as a weapon and killed 1,000 soldiers.  He could break free from ropes as if being tied with thread.  When the gates of a city were locked to hold him prisoner, he took hold of the gates and pulled them up from their foundation and carried them away.  He was a hulk of a man.

At birth Samson was dedicated to the Lord.  No razor was to touch his head.  His long hair was his testimony of devotion to God.  Can you imagine him walking down the street?  His hair blowing in the wind and everyone knowing he was God’s champion for the hour.  He was identified as a man God was honoring with power and strength and recognition.

Samson teaches us how a strong man can fall.  Samson fed his weakness.  His weakness was women.  Delilah became the woman who brought him down.  While with Delilah he trifled with the sacred.  His hair was sacred to the Lord.  His hair was the identification of God’s favor.  Samson made himself vulnerable to Delilah.  Judges 16:17 – “... he told her all his heart, and said to her, ‘No razor has ever come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb.  If I am shaven, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.’”

It was Delilah’s mission to destroy Samson.  His weakness blinded him to her objective.  She became his first and only barber.

The same principles are found in relation to our spiritual enemy today.  The tactic is consistent.  Find a weakness and exploit it.  Render the victim blind to the consequences of bad choices and get them in a position of being forced to make a choice.

We must stay alert.  Like Samson you can become blind to your weakness.  Ask the Lord to open your eyes of understanding to see any personal weakness the enemy could use to bring you down.  Then ask the Lord to help you take a stand of obedience and reject every temptation targeting that weakness.

I prayed for you,

PG
